Laycock and Goose Eye

Description of the walk:
1. This walk starts at the centre village of Laycock. Go left through the village of Laycock and when the road narrows, go down a paved track to join a narrow walled path. Follow this path to emerge at a road. Turn left down the road to pass the Turkey Inn. About 60 yards beyond this pub, you reach Dean Beck, take the steps on your right and re-cross the beck via footbridge. Go up the beck upstream and turn right over a footbridge, to cross a water channel.
2. Continue straight ahead, passing a mill dam. Now bear right up a paved path, passing the rear of a farmhouse and cross a stony track to continue straight ahead, via a gate. Keep along this walled track, signed Slippery Ford. Continue straight ahead, up-hill to reach another gate. Continue straight up to another gate where you meet the road once again.
3. Turn left and go along the road for about 100 yards, before turn left on an access path/track. Continue straight ahead, keeping right of the farm buildings, to reach a gate on your right. Follow this path straight ahead to meet at far end of the barn. Follow this path straight ahead up the valley, passing through three fields to reach Dean Beck. Cross over the beck and go through a gate and follow the other beck to a wall. Go up the wall uphill and take a gate on the left into the yard. Walk between farm buildings and out on to the road. Go left at the road and follow it down hill and cross over Morkin Bridge.
4. Now turn right through a gate, just over the beck and go straight up this track, passing over the beck once again. Continue straight ahead on this path (no diversions) to eventually reach the Keighley Moor Reservoir.
5. When you have reach the Keighley Moor Reservoir. Turn left at the reservoir and follow the path round the top of the reservoir. At the far end of the reservoir, turn left by a concrete post to join a moorland path which leads downhill. Continue straight ahead down this path(no diversions) to meet a wall. Carry straight ahead by the wall to reach a gate in the wall. Now go right to cut cross a line of grouse butts to find a narrow path. Go straight ahead down this path to a walled stile where you join walled track going right.
6. Continue straight ahead along this track, Broadhead Lane, to meet a road. Cross over the road and continue straight down the track to emerge in Newsholme.
7. Once you reach Newsholme, walk between houses to emerge at a lane. Now turn left down a lane which becomes a track path. Cross over the beck where you meet a road. Now turn left on this road to return back to the Goose Eye. Walk through the village and steeply up the road. The road then turn right to follow the road where this walks and ends.

Haworth’s Bronte Moor

Description of the walk:
1. This walk starts in the main car park at top end of Haworth. From the car park, turn left up the cobbed lane, passing a Haworth Moor sign. This path becomes a paved field that leads to the Haworth-Stanbury road. Turn left and go along this road for about 100 yards. After 100 yards you will meet another road. Turn left on this road with sign of Penistone Hill. Continue straight ahead on this road to meet another road.
2. Cross over this road with care and go the track opposite. This track is signed to Bronte Way and Top Withins. Continue straight ahead on this path (no diversions) to reach the Bronte seat bridge. At Bronte seat bridge, cross the bridge and carry straight up to meet an three-way signpost.
3. Turn left at this sign post, sign-posted ‘Top Withins’. Follow this path up-hill taking no diversions to emerge at a beck. Cross over the beck by stepping stones and carry straight-ahead up hill to emerge a way marker signpost by a old ruined building.
4. Turn right at the sign-post for Stanbury and Haworth to follow this path down-hill. This path is the Pennine Way. Carry straight ahead on this path, as you follow this track down-hill (take no diversiosn) to emerge at a white farmhouse
5. Continue straight ahead passing a white farmhouse and then turn left at folk in the paths. Continue to reach another building, Lower Heights Farm. Pass by this farm for another 500 yards to arrive another folk of paths to chose. Here take the left-hand folk and continue straight-ahead down the path, sign-posted ‘Stanbury and Haworth.’ Continue along this path track to meet a road.
6. Turn right along the road to go through Stanbury. Turn right on road to Oxenhope. Continue straight ahead, go over the dam of Lower Laithe Reservoir dam. When you emerge at the far-end of the reservoir dam, turn left on a road. Follow this road up hill to meet another road by Haworth cemetery.
7. Turn left down the road and continue down the road into Haworth. This is where the walk finishes and concludes.

Langfield Edge to Stoodley Pike

Description of the walk:
1. Start in the centre of Todmorden. Make you way to the Todmorden Town Hall. From here, turn left down the left-hand side of A6033 (Rochdale road) to pass over a bridge over a canal, to meet the Golden Lion pub. Just after the pub, turn left up the road. This first section is very steep as you wind your way out of Todmorden. Continue up the road on its left-hand side and take the first road on your left. Continue up this very steep road which leads eventually leads to Longfield Terrace. At Longfield Terrace, turn left on track and continue straight along this track up hill. When this path folks, take the left-hand branch track and continue past the farm and continue up the track, up-hill, to meet an road. Turn left along the road and continue along the road to reach the Shepherd’s Rest pub.
2. At the pub, look opposite and you see a track leading up hill. Turn right and follow this track up hill(no diversions) to reach the top of Langfield Edge. You reach some quarry working, turn left up the path. Continue straight ahead till the path again folks. Keep right as the path continue up-hill passing the summit of Langfield Edge. Continue straight ahead on this path (take no diversions).
3. This path eventually meets another path by a waymarker stone. Continue straight ahead on this path and take no diversion paths as you slowly head towards to impressive monument of Stoodley Pike in the distance. Continue straight ahead, with the last section on the flat to arrive finally at the monument of Stoodley Pike.
4. At the monument of Stoodley Pike, go past it and right and continue straight down a downhill path to meet a stile in a wall. Continue over the stile and continue on for about 40 yards, to meet another ladder stile. Now, turn left over this stile and continue down downhill along this path. This path leads down another wide track called London Road and leave your existing.
5. Turn left on this track as it descends down to the small hamlet of Mankinholes. Follow this track taking no diversions to arrive at this small hamlet of Mankinholes. W hen you reach this small hamlet, turn right and straight along the road for about 120 yards.
6. After about 120 yards after the last house, take a path on your left signposted ‘Calderdale Way.’ Continue straight ahead on this path to emerge at the Top Brink Pub at another small hamlet called Lumbutts. At the pub, go right on path between houses and continue straight along the path between a fence and wall, to reach a gap stile. Continue straight ahead over the wall and turn right across the field to another gap stile in the wall. Continue over the wall down the steep sided valley to meet a farm track. Continue down the farm track to meet a minor road at some cottages. Continue down this minor road and over a bridge over of the Rochdale Canal.
7. Now turn left down by canal, to reach the path on the canal. Walk up the canal as you slowly head take towards the centre of Todmorden. Continue straight ahead to reach the bridge you passed over at the start of walk. Take path up to regain the street path and turn right to finish and conclude this walk.

Wadsworth Moor and High Brown Knoll

Description of the walk:
This walk starts at the National Trust Car Park at Bridge End. From the car park, go left down the road over the bridge, passing the toilet blocks. Just after the toilet block, turn left up a walled path. Carry on straight ahead, taking the 2nd left hand path (a bridleway sign for Pecket Wall). Continue straight ahead and cross over a beck. Climb up the other side of the beck and turn left by a way mark sign. Continue on this path which leads to a road. Cross over the road and take the path opposite. Reach the next road and turn right down the road for 200 yards.

1. Immediately turn left at the Calderdale Way. Walk up to the cottage and go left to meet a green lane. Continue straight ahead, you will reach a folk in the path. Turn right on the right-hand branch and continue straight ahead to reach an unmade road. Now take the walled path opposite Old Town Slack Farm. When this vehicle track swings right of the farm, go straight ahead, passing over the stile and to open moor. Now turn right round a wall corner. In a few yards, the track bears left with Moor side Farm to your right. Carry on to reach a track junction. At this junction, take left-hand (blue arrow) path and continue along this path.
2. This track leads to an old house comes into view in 50 yards. Just past the house, the path forks. We take left-hand path which leads onto Wadsworth Moors. Continue straight ahead for 600 yards. You will now reach marker posts. Carry straight ahead on this track (take no diversions) off the main path.
3. This track leads to a wall end. Immediately, take a sharp turn left. Follow this path for 500 yards until the wire fence turns right to cross a beck. Continue straight ahead on this path. This leads to a stone bridge. Do not go over cross the bridge but turn left, with the white channel on your right. Follow this path for a few hundred yards which leads to another blue marker post. Turn sharply left here to walk to another blue marker post after another few hundred of walking. Continue walking on the path, passing a few posts. This path leads to High Brown Knoll. This leads to a cross path. Just beyond the cross track is another blue marker. Continue straight ahead pass the blue marker over the moor to get a wide cross track. Turn left along the wide track and go straight ahead to descend off the moor.
4. Continue to reach the road. At the road, turn left for just 100 yards and then turn right over a stile, next to a gate. Continue down the path straight-down taking no diversions to reach the road. Once you reach the road, turn right. Walk straight ahead for just about 200 yards and turn left over a bridleway sign. Follow the path down hill and turn right over Lumb Bridge. Continue up the path to where the path swings left. Follow the path to the left with it. Continue straight ahead along the path.
5. This path reaches a walled track. Turn left along this track. Follow this track all the way back (take no diversions) all the way back to National Trust Car Park overflow car park. Turn left down a path, to reach lower car park. This where the walk finishes and concludes.

Grosmont and Egton Bridge

Description of the walk:
The walk starts from the car park in Grosmont. From the car park, walk to the level crossing in the centre of Grosmont and go over the railway line and turn right down a path (Sign-posted Loca sheds and Goathland) You then you reach a footbridge over River Mourk Esk. Cross over the footbridge to where the track forks. Go left on the path for Goathland. Carry straight on, passing the church. Go through a kissing gate and immediately turn right on footpath to go past a signpost for Goathland and immediately turn left. Continue straight ahead on this path with the railway line to your left

1. Continue straight ahead onto a row of cottage. Carry on another 600 yards to come to a row of trees. Here you will find a gate and a double way-marked stile on your right. Cross over the stile and turn left to walk towards a telegraph pole. Carry on straight ahead through the bracken to a stile and go into the wood. Carry on this path as you pass through the wood, with River Murk Esk to your to left. When leaving the wood, go over the stile and press on the left edge of the field and carry straight ahead on the path. Carry straight ahead to gain another fingerpost. Continue on the line of the fingerpost to enter a wood by a stile. Cross over the footbridge and immediately right at a signpost for Egton.
2. Continue straight up through the woods. Pass a barn and to the left if Murck Esk cottage continue through the wood. Go through a gate and swing left with the path. Continue along the path for a 200 or 300 hundred yards to meet a signpost. Turn right here on the path, to reach the road. At the road, turn right and walk up the road for 500 yards, passing one footpath sign. Don’t turn up this sign-post. Rather continue to the next footpath sign and turn right up this path through a gate. Continue straight ahead, passing through a gate and press on along this path. This path emerges on the road. Turn right on the road and go up it for a couple of hundred yards to a barn and turn left at the footpath sign. Continue straight ahead on this path
3. Carry straight ahead with the hedgerow on your right. Carry on, passing through a gate and turn left along the wall. Cross over the stile and go rightwards direction in the direction of the wood. Go over a stile and go over into the next field. At the bottom of the field, turn left through a gate and continue with the wall on your right along the field edge. Continue to pass through two wooden gates and turn left down a farm drive to meet a road. At the road, immediately turn right and with a few yards the lane leads to another lane. Pass over the lane junction and go straight ahead on the path opposite. Go through the way marked gate in front and walk down the right-hand wall to enter a wood. Enter the wood and turn left, crossing over a stile and go straight to the top of the bank.
4. Enter the wood and follow the path to emerge at a vehicle track. Follow this track to meet the road in Egton Manor. Turn right along the road and immediately left to pass by the Horseshoe Pub. Carry on the road over the River Esk and just before the church, turn right between tow stone pillars to enter a path to Egton Estates. Follow this path straight ahead with no diversions as it widens its way with River Esk to your right. This path leads to a road just outside Grosmont. When you reach the road, turn right on the road which leads back to the centre of Grosmont. This is where the road finishes and concludes.

The White Horse and Cold Kirby

Description of the walk:
This walk starts at the Sutton Bank Visitor Centre. Make your way to the top of Sutton Bank and immediately turn left along the Hambleton Escarpment to pass a signpost for the White Horse and Gliding Club. At this point, the path splits in two directions, left and right. Take left branch and follow the path straight down the path along the cliff of Sutton Bank.

1. After about a mile, the path goes past Yorkshire Gliding Club, to top of the White Horse and then descends to a car park and a road. Turn left up the road and continue along the road for three quarters of a mile which leads back to the A170.
2. Carefully cross over road(very busy road) and turn right up the path for about 200 yards to reach the Hambleton Inn. At Hambleton Inn, turn left on a minor lane which has a signpost for the Cleveland Way. Continue straight ahead up this road for a couple of hundred yards to meet a signpost. Keep straight ahead for a short distance, to find a sign post for the Cleveland Way and Cold Kirby. At this point, turn right on this path by going over a stile and follow this path past the Hambleton House Horse establishment. Continue straight-ahead, passing over another stile as the path now sweeps left of the trees and continues between widely-spaced walls. Continue straight ahead on this path to reach a road at the edge of the village of Cold Kirby.
3. At the road, turns left for a few paces and then turn right immediately, crossing the road carefully, to go up a minor road opposite. Continue straight ahead up this minor road opposite for half a mile until you reach right-hand bend. Carry straight-ahead on the road for a further 500 yards. After about 500 yards, you will met a medal bridleway sign on your left. Turn left here and head straight ahead on this passing a five barred gate and carry straight ahead on this path to reach a road. At the road, turn left and continue down the road for a mile to reach another road.
4. Turn left along this road for 350 yards and turn right by a bridleway sign and up a vehicle track, with the fence on your left. Follow this path as makes left and right turn to arrive at a rider’s gate and stile. Cross the stile and follow the path along the field edge to arrive at the edge of Hambleton Escarpement. Turn left here along Hambleton Escarpement and follow this path along the field edge. Continue straight along this path for about three-quarters of a mile to return to the top of Sutton Bank and the road. From the road, turn left back into the car park at Sutton Bank Visitor Centre. It here where the walk finishes and concludes.

Standedge from Marsden

This walk starts from centre of Marsden. From the centre of Marsden, go up-hill on station road. Between the railway pub and the station, go left on path of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal. Carry straight ahead to reach a footbridge and walk up a track to Tunnel End Inn and the road. 2. Turn left up the road. Continue straight ahead along the road. When you reach the entrance to the Hey Green Hotel go past it and after about 100 yards, turn left just before a cottage along a footpath. Follow this path to cross Close gate Bridge to come to a beck. 3. At far end of close gate bridge, keep right of the beck for about 100 yards. Continue straight ahead on this path as you go over the moorland taking no diversions as you head towards the A640. 4. Just before you reach the road, go over a bridge over a beck and turn left on the Pennine Way. Continue straight ahead on this path as you continue straight downhill. 5. Continue straight down this path, passing over stiles and gates, before going on unmade track which leads down to A62. Continue straight down the road. 6. At the road, cross over the road and go over some steps to the left of the car-park, and continue down the Pennine Way, with Redbrook Reservoir. When you reach a marker stone, continue straight ahead (don’t follow the Pennine Way path), crossing over the beck and continue straight ahead to reach the road. 7. When you reach the road, turn right along and then immediately turn left. Continue straight ahead for about 100 yards and turn left up a path (signed Hades farm). Carry straight ahead on this path for about half a mile. Continue to reach the road once again. Turn left on the road once again to arrive at Marsden once again. This where the walk finishes once again.

Scawton and Cold Kirby

Description of the walk:
This walk starts from the centre of the village of Scawton. To start the walk, walk back towards Sutton Bank, passing the Hare Inn and immediately turn left and go straight ahead to pass a few cottages to emerge at a signpost. Turn right here, passing through a gate and go straight across the field in the direction of a telegraph pole. Continue straight along this path. At the bottom of the field, bear left to a yellow marker. Carry past the marker on a path to reach a gate. Go through the gate and go straight ahead to enter an tarred road, after crossing a stile. Walk up the tarred road to meet another road. Turn right here, passing a camping club sign.

1. Carry straight up this road for half a mile to meet a footpath.(Cleveland Way signpost- on the right-hand side of the road) Turn left on this footpath, passing through a parking area to emerge on vehicle. Carry straight ahead on this vehicle track for half a mile to meet a Cleveland Way sign. Here turn right over the stepping stones of the small river. Continue straight ahead passing through s gate. Go forward for 25 paces to gain unmade forest road and then turn right along the road. Continue straight ahead for a further 550 yards to meet a folk in the road. Go up the left-hand folk.
2. After 200 yards or so, turn right on a Cleveland Way footpath sign to go a path to a gate. Continue straight ahead along this path for three quarters of a mile to meet another signpost. Turn right at a Cleveland Way sign and continue down the track to emerge at a tarred lane. At the tarred lane, turn left, passing the church and continue straight ahead passing through a gate onto a vehicle track. Continue straight ahead and meet a vehicle track in the next field. Continue straight ahead by walk down the right-hand side of the hedge.
3. At the fields end, go past the stile, to emerge at deep wooded glen. Go rightwards here following the footpath as you descend quickly down the slope to reach bottom of the slope by zig-zag your way down the slope. Near the bottom of slope, you meet the forest road. Here turn left along the road for 25 yards and then immediately right on path to pass by trees. Once you emerge from the trees, turn left for 60 yards along a wire fence and then immediately right to go over a stile.
4. Go straight ahead on this path and go straight across the field to a stile. Go straight ahead, going over a cart track and along the left-hand side of the hedge. Continue straight ahead passing over two or three fields to emerge in a wood. Continue straight to go over a stile and continue straight ahead to follow the path with the fence on your left. Follow the path round to reach a stile. Cross the stile and turn right along the fence to meet some red metal gates. Now turn left on the vehicle track over a field to pass by the left-hand side of a farm wall to pass through a wooden gate. Continue straight ahead to get to a stile to arrive at Scawton village green and the finish and conclusion of this walk.

Kildale and Captain Cook’s Monument

Description of the walk:
This walk starts in the centre of the village of Kildale. To this start this walk, pass the post office and turn left at the first road. After a few yards, turn right along path sign-post the Cleveland Way, passing the tea rooms. Carry straight ahead down this narrow path, to pass under the Esk Valley Railway Line. Carry straight now on now the tarmac path and climb upwards passing Bankside Farm. Pass over the cattle grid and continue straight up the slope to the top slope. At the top of slope, turn left on footpath (sign post Cleveland Way and Gribbdale). This is a forest road.

1. After about 500 yards, leave the main track and go up a green path, passing trees and a Cleveland sign. Go straight ahead up this path following the path to Easby Moor and then Captain Cook’s Monument. Once you have reach the monument, turn right along a flagstone path which leads to a road and a car park at Gribbdale Gate. At the road, turn right for a few yards and then go half left up the vehicle track passing a green sign on the SSSI moorland.
2. Carry straight ahead, passing a barrier and continue up the track. After about a few yards, turn right of the main track and go up the gully which has a rocky path. Follow this path straight now as you pass over Great Ayton Moor to meet a road. Turn right, passing through a gate and go along this unfenced road. Carry straight ahead down this lane for a couple of miles to arrive at another road. Go straight over and continue down lane opposite for another 130 yards. The road now turns left where you now return right on this footpath.
3. Follow this footpath for another 40 yards and over a small beck. Now go half right up and across the field to a gap in the wall. Continue through the gap in the wall and turn left up the wall. With wall the path leads to a wire fence with a small pond on your right and a stile on your left. Go straight forward with the wire fence on your left hand side to cross the field. At far-side of field, turn right down by a wall to reach a signpost and gate. Here turn left through the gate. Carry straight ahead for 60 yards to meet a signpost. Here turn right and go on this path to pass some trees.
4. Follow this woodland path, passing over a bridge to reach another sign-post. Turn left and follow the path next to the Esk Valley railway line. Continue straight ahead with railway line to your right. Carry on and pass over a stile in hedge line and continue along the field edge, curving left to arrive at metal gate/stile. Go over the stile and turn left on the road. Continue along the road for half a mile to return to Kildale where the walk finishes and concludes

Goathland and Park Rigg

Description of the walk:
This walk starts from the North Yorkshire Moors National car park, at the eastern side of Goathland. From south end of the car park, passing the toilet block, go down the road for about 30 yards. After 30 yards, turn left and follow the path, sign-posted Grosmont Rail Trail. Continue straight along this track (no diversion) as goes gradually down hill to pass cottage called Incline cottage.

1. After passing the cottage, turn left at the signpost for Thackside. Immediately you enter Combs wood, crossing over the footbridge. Continue straight-ahead, climbing steps and up through a path with trees on either side of the path. You then reach a figure post for Beck Hole. Turn left along this broad track for little while. At the next finger post sign, turn right and go straight head to top-edge of the wood. At the edge of the wood, turn right to exit the wood through a gate. Continue straight along the edge of wood, passing a bridleway sign. Go through gate and turn left and follow the wallside past the farm and continue straight ahead along the drive-way of the farm to reach the road. At the road, cross over the road and take the signposted path directly opposite. This path descends quickly down by a wall to the bottom. Then turn right through the reeds along a path.
2. Continue along this path through reeds. This path is very indistinctive and very boggy in places but keep straight-ahead passing some silver birches to emerge in a opening where there is bracken. Continue up the narrow path with bracken on either side of the path. You eventually emerge from this narrow path into a grassy path. Continue straight-ahead to meet a way mark gate which has an arrow on it. Follow the arrow and straight ahead to reach the brow of the field. You will meet a gate, go through it and turn left along the wall for 50 yards. After 50 yards, turn right down another path to go down the slope of the hill. When you reach the bottom of the slope, go straight ahead (don’t turn left). Follow this path to the top of the slope of the hill. Carry straight-ahead up this path taking no diversions on route to reach some heather. Carry straight ahead on this path with a lone tree straight ahead. The path is now not very clear but aim for the lone tree in the distance. Carry on straight wards to reach the tree. When you reach the tree, carry straight ahead to pass it and eventually the path starts to improve with you passing a small cairn of stones.
3. After a few hundred yards, the path becomes very clear so follow this path straight wards direction to reach a moorland road. Immediately turn left on the road and walk down the road for three-quarters of a mile to reach a set of ‘S’ bents and picnic spot. Turn left through grassy bank, to a vehicle track right to the right of the beck. Pass through a gatestile to enter Hazel Head Wood. Follow this path following the way-mark arrow. This leads to a field. Go straight ahead through the field to a stile and then turn right over West Beck to reach a ford.
4. Cross over the ford and go straight ahead up the vehicle track, passing through a gate and go for another 60 yards to meet a road. Turn right up the road for a couple of hundred yards and turn left at an old metal footpath sign. Go straight ahead, and immediately turn left at the second footpath sign just little further on. About 40 yards later, another track emerges but don’t this path to the right. Rather cross it and carry straight ahead in the direction of the moor.
5. Look now a cairn on the moorland. Carry on this path for further 200 yards before turning right to get to the cairn. At the cairn, carry straight-along this broad track for a mile. Don’t take of the left paths and keep straight ahead to emerge at a tarn. Carry on passed the tarn to your left and carry straight ahead on the path. Carry straight as the path now descends to reach a road at the each of Goathland. At the road, turn right and walk along the road through village to return once again to reach North York Moors National Park car park where the walk finishes and concludes.
