Walking in Yorkshire: An Introduction

So what images come to mind when you think of Yorkshire. May be men walking round with flat-hats on, saying, ‘eh lad or lass’. Or images such as the large manufacturing industries such as coal and steel that have and continue to dominate and provide work for the its people. Or maybe it is the many ruined abbeys and castles, great houses and gardens that exist throughout the county that may come to mind first. We all have images of we think Yorkshire is. But Yorkshire greatest and most important asset has to be its impressive, untouched and beautiful countryside, which can’t be found and matched anywhere in rest of the United Kingdom.

One of the best ways to enjoy the beautiful and varied region of Yorkshire is to go walking by foot. The region has suitable walking routes for everyone, young or old. This includes long rambles routes for those who are more adventurous and want to challenge themselves. In contrast, there are plenty of short ramble routes for those who want a gentle stroll, possibly through one of the many picturesque villages in the region or a leisurely walk along the impressive eastern coastline. Yet being the largest region in the United Kingdom, Yorkshire varieties considerably, depending on location, on what types of walking options are available to all walkers of all ages and abilities.
