Description of the walk:
This walk starts from the centre of the village of Scawton. To start the walk, walk back towards Sutton Bank, passing the Hare Inn and immediately turn left and go straight ahead to pass a few cottages to emerge at a signpost. Turn right here, passing through a gate and go straight across the field in the direction of a telegraph pole. Continue straight along this path. At the bottom of the field, bear left to a yellow marker. Carry past the marker on a path to reach a gate. Go through the gate and go straight ahead to enter an tarred road, after crossing a stile. Walk up the tarred road to meet another road. Turn right here, passing a camping club sign.

1. Carry straight up this road for half a mile to meet a footpath.(Cleveland Way signpost- on the right-hand side of the road) Turn left on this footpath, passing through a parking area to emerge on vehicle. Carry straight ahead on this vehicle track for half a mile to meet a Cleveland Way sign. Here turn right over the stepping stones of the small river. Continue straight ahead passing through s gate. Go forward for 25 paces to gain unmade forest road and then turn right along the road. Continue straight ahead for a further 550 yards to meet a folk in the road. Go up the left-hand folk.
2. After 200 yards or so, turn right on a Cleveland Way footpath sign to go a path to a gate. Continue straight ahead along this path for three quarters of a mile to meet another signpost. Turn right at a Cleveland Way sign and continue down the track to emerge at a tarred lane. At the tarred lane, turn left, passing the church and continue straight ahead passing through a gate onto a vehicle track. Continue straight ahead and meet a vehicle track in the next field. Continue straight ahead by walk down the right-hand side of the hedge.
3. At the fields end, go past the stile, to emerge at deep wooded glen. Go rightwards here following the footpath as you descend quickly down the slope to reach bottom of the slope by zig-zag your way down the slope. Near the bottom of slope, you meet the forest road. Here turn left along the road for 25 yards and then immediately right on path to pass by trees. Once you emerge from the trees, turn left for 60 yards along a wire fence and then immediately right to go over a stile.
4. Go straight ahead on this path and go straight across the field to a stile. Go straight ahead, going over a cart track and along the left-hand side of the hedge. Continue straight ahead passing over two or three fields to emerge in a wood. Continue straight to go over a stile and continue straight ahead to follow the path with the fence on your left. Follow the path round to reach a stile. Cross the stile and turn right along the fence to meet some red metal gates. Now turn left on the vehicle track over a field to pass by the left-hand side of a farm wall to pass through a wooden gate. Continue straight ahead to get to a stile to arrive at Scawton village green and the finish and conclusion of this walk.
