Standedge from Marsden

Start and Finish: Marsden
Approximate time for the walk: 4 hours
Distance: 7 miles
Landscape: Heather Moorland
Map: O/S Outdoor Leisure 21 South Pennines

Description of the walk:
1. This walk starts from centre of Marsden. From the centre of Marsden, go up-hill on station road. Between the railway pub and the station, go left on path of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal. Carry straight ahead to reach a footbridge and walk up a track to Tunnel End Inn and the road.
2. Turn left up the road. Continue straight ahead along the road. When you reach the entrance to the Hey Green Hotel go past it and after about 100 yards, turn left just before a cottage along a footpath. Follow this path to cross Close gate Bridge to come to a beck.
3. At far end of close gate bridge, keep right of the beck for about 100 yards. Continue straight ahead on this path as you go over the moorland taking no diversions as you head towards the A640.
4. Just before you reach the road, go over a bridge over a beck and turn left on the Pennine Way. Continue straight ahead on this path as you continue straight downhill.
5. Continue straight down this path, passing over stiles and gates, before going on unmade track which leads down to A62. Continue straight down the road.
6. At the road, cross over the road and go over some steps to the left of the car-park, and continue down the Pennine Way, with Redbrook Reservoir. When you reach a marker stone, continue straight ahead (don’t follow the Pennine Way path), crossing over the beck and continue straight ahead to reach the road.
7. When you reach the road, turn right along and then immediately turn left. Continue straight ahead for about 100 yards and turn left up a path (signed Hades farm). Carry straight ahead on this path for about half a mile. Continue to reach the road once again. Turn left on the road once again to arrive at Marsden once again. This where the walk finishes once again.
